Wow. That’s what I said when I heard about this trade. I actually happened to be playing basketball myself at the time. I was taking a quick break when one of my friends said, “have you heard about the De’Aaron Fox trade?” I replied, “what trade?” Boy was I in for a shock. Less than 24 hours after the trade that sent Luka Dončic to the Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Mavericks (make sure you read my article on it!) De’Aaron Fox is a Spur and Zach Lavine is a King. That 24 hours was easily the biggest 24 hours in NBA history. 3 all-star level players are now on different teams.
What was the trade and was it even?
This trade is more even than the other one. The Spurs get both De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin. When I first looked at this trade, I instantly thought, “Wow the spurs are going to be so fun to watch!” To start, they already had Victor Wembanyama, who has the highest potential of any NBA player right now. He is so fun to watch whether he’s throwing down lobs or nailing deep threes. They now have De’Aaron Fox, who is currently averaging 25 points per game. A good point guard along side Wemby is going to be so fun. I can already imagine all of the highlights. Another thing that makes this a good trade for the Spurs is that they didn’t have to give up any of their key players. They only gave up Sidy Cissoko, Kevin Huerter, and Tre Jones. None of these players are key players on their roster. They’re all replaceable. They also gave up a lot of draft picks (3 first round picks and 3 second round picks. Overall, they sacrificed a bunch of draft picks for an amazing player that will compliment Wemby perfectly. There’s also another important person who moved around in this trade. The Kings received Zach Lavine. Zach Lavine was averaging 24 points for the Bulls. The Kings also got Sidy Cissoko and those 3 first round picks and 3 second round picks. The Bulls received Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and a 1st round pick. Overall, I would give the Spurs a B+ for this trade because they got a really good player but did have to give up a lot of draft picks. I would give the Bulls a B- for this trade because they gave up their only really good player. I would give the Kings an A for this trade because they got a ton of draft picks and Zach Lavine.
Overall, I’m still lost for words on what has been going on in the NBA as of late. It feels like everything we know is going up in flames in a fun and interesting way.
